Bayern München are back in action after their exit from the Champions League at the hands of Manchester City in midweek with the Bundesliga league leaders set to travel to Mainz who are aiming for another win in April.
Mainz’s charge towards a spot in Europe has taken a hit in recent weeks with the club failing to beat Werder Bremen in a 2-2 draw and then drawing with Koln last weekend in a game that saw Ludovic Ajorque score another goal from just one shot on target for Mainz.

This means the club’s only win in April came in that stunning 3-0 win away to RB Leipzig where Ajorque scored another after a finish from Marcus Ingvartsen and a goal from Dominik Kohr.
They remain in eighth as a result with 39 goals let in and 46 scored with 11 wins and eight losses. At the same time, Mainz are only behind Eintracht Frankfurt by goals difference in the fight for a spot in the Europa Conference League in the remaining six games, as Bayer Leverkusen in sixth are two clear.
Bayern Munich head into this one having drawn 1-1 with Manchester City in midweek after another goal against them from Erling Haaland. Joshua Kimmich brought the game level, but Bayern eventually lost the tie 4-1 on aggregate.
Things have got worse for them again in the Bundesliga after drawing 1-1 with Hoffenheim where Benjamin Pavard scored another goal. This now means Thomas Tuchel has won only two games since taking charge after defeating Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in the league.
His side’s only other win came in a 1-0 victory away to Freiburg just days on from losing to them in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals.
This run of form has now kept Dortmund at bay by two points in the fight for the title, and Bayern got lucky last week because of Dortmund’s draw with Stuttgart.
All attention for Bayern will turn towards these next six fixtures and to see if they can retain their Bundesliga trophy. The league leaders still have tricky games like this one against Mainz and a home meeting with RB Leipzig to deal with.
