Mahata Otoo appointed new Hearts captain

Striker Mahatma Otoo has been appointed as the substantive captain of Hearts of Oak for the upcoming season.

The 20-year-old, who is in his fourth season at the capital-based club takes over from Samuel Nzemaba who has joined Medeama.

Defender Osei Bonsu, who acted during the latter stages of last season, was overlooked for the role but will remain in an assistant capacity.

The leadership qualities of the former Sporting Mirren and Esperance Tunis attacker will be required to drive the team to success in the upcoming season.

“Mahatma’s appointment has been endorsed by the club’s Board of Directors and though striker has been acting in that capacity in the pre-season games,” a member of the technical team is quoted by 90 Minutes newspaper

“His captainship role at Heart will officially take effect from Monday1st October 2012.

“From 1st October Mahatma will officially assume the position as captain of the team with the blessings of the rank and file of the club.

“There were a lot of deliberations before we settled on him but are convinced that with the respect he commands here amongst the playing body, he should be able to handle his new position without any qualms whatsoever.

Hearts are desirous of reclaiming the Premier League crown after playing three seasons without silverware.
