Wednesday night brings us midweek action from the French Ligue 1 and features this upcoming clash between Lyon and Auxerre at the Groupama Stadium with the hosts seeking to further extend their unbeaten start in this season’s domestic top flight campaign.
A 1-1 draw on Sunday away from home at Reims was perhaps a disappointing result for Lyon but nevertheless, that point enabled Lyon to move up into 4th place in the early Ligue 1 standings as well as extend the hosts’ unbeaten start to this season to three matches.

Lyon had previously picked up back to back wins on home soil at their Groupama Stadium with victories against new-boys, Ajaccio, in a 2-1 win and then followed that up with a comprehensive 4-1 thrashing of Troyes.
So the hosts will be in confident mood for this midweek encounter against Auxerre.
The bigger picture shows Lyon have lost just twice in their last 13 matches in the French top flight, both of which were away from home at Brest and Metz.
While on home soil, Lyon have lost just two of their last 13 games, winning their last six home games on the trot.
Auxerre were dealt an opening day heavy 4-1 defeat away from home at Lille.
But the visitors have responded in positive fashion by putting together a three-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 in subsequent games.
A 2-2 draw at home with Angers was followed by posting back to back wins against Montpellier 2-1 away from home and their weekend 1-0 home win over Strasbourg, so they too will head into Wednesday night’s meeting with Lyon in a confident frame of mind.
However, form and actual league wins in the domestic top flight have been sporadic as Auxerre have managed to collect just five wins from their previous 25 games overall, only two of which were recorded away from home.
Indeed, results away from home have been Auxerre’s achilles heel as the visitors have won just two of their last 21 outings on the road, although a gap of 10 years has passed since Auxerre were last competing in the domestic top flight.
Lyon have amassed a total of 23 goals across their last six home wins on the trot and the hosts should possess too much firepower for Auxerre here on Wednesday night too.
