Bilbao attacker Nico Williams has stated that Spain head coach Luis Enrique motivated him ahead of his debut.
In a September encounter in La Romareda, the Spanish national team was beaten by Switzerland; Nico Williams made his debut.
The Athletic Bilbao player recalled his debut and mentioned Luis Enrique’s suggestion that he performs similarly to how he did for Athletic.
“It’s a big step in my career. I’m grateful to the coach for this opportunity. He told me to open up the pitch, to dribble, what I do at Athletic,” he said
“They are tough opponents. We knew they were dangerous from set pieces and we couldn’t stop them. Spain never give up and I’ve seen that my team-mates are very strong mentally,”
Nico Williams was first added to Spain’s 55 man provisional squad due to his performance this season in La Liga.
The Bilbao attacker expressed his excitement when on his official social media platforms when he was added to the final 26 man squad for the Mundial.
