Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold defends Mohamed Salah over ‘unfair’ criticism

Trent Alexander-Arnold has defended Mohamed Salah after his recent run of poor form.

The Egyptian had a simply sensational first half of the 2021/22 campaign and looked to be on course to break Premier League goal-scoring records.

However, Salah has now scored just one goal in his last 10 Liverpool outings across all competitions.

Given Liverpool are competing on three fronts at the end of the season, having their best player lacking in both goals and assists is not what Liverpool will want.

Despite this, Alexander-Arnold has moved to defend Salah in a recent interview:

“I think it’s unfair. The levels he gets himself too, he’s kind of a victim of his own success,” Trent said.

“He’s still top goalscorer, he’s one behind me in terms of assists and people are saying he’s having a bad run of form?! He’s nearly top goalscorer in the Champions League as well.

“What he has done for us over the last five seasons has been outstanding. Look, it’s unfair for people to say he is going through a bad patch. “We all have belief that he is going to score goals for us. It’s only a matter of time before he puts it in the back of the net again.”

Liverpool vs Manchester United

Salah’s next chance to end his goal-scoring drought comes on Tuesday evening vs Manchester United.

The two teams have a historic rivalry, but it is expected that Liverpool will see off United with ease this week.

Man United put an end to their poor run by picking up a win this past weekend. However, the fact they only just beat Championship-bound Norwich will not fill Red Devils fans with confidence ahead of facing Liverpool.
