Liverpool revive Antoine Semenyo pursuit ahead of January window

Liverpool are preparing a fresh bid for Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window after failing to land him last summer, multiple English outlets have reported.

The Premier League champions have endured an unusually difficult title defence losing five of their opening 11 league matches and are bracing for another major setback as Mohamed Salah departs next month to captain Egypt at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

With Salah struggling for form this season and set to miss a crucial stretch of games, Liverpool view Semenyo as the ideal plug-in attacker to restore dynamism to their forward line.

Semenyo, who will be available because Ghana failed to qualify for AFCON 2025, has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this campaign. The 25-year-old has produced six goals and three assists in 11 matches, thriving under Andoni Iraola’s high-energy system at Bournemouth.

Although he recently signed a new long-term contract at the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth are expected to listen if Liverpool table a significant offer.

A key figure in the move is newly-appointed Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes, the man who originally signed Semenyo for Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023. Hughes, a long-time admirer of the Ghana forward, is expected to play a central role in Liverpool’s renewed push.
