Liverpool deserved UCL final spot, admits Unai Emery

Unai Emery has admitted Liverpool deserved to progress to the Champions League final following their comeback against Villareal.

Villarreal fought hard in the first half as they managed to beat Liverpool 2-0 to draw the tie level but the Reds staged a comeback to progress with a 5-2 aggregate.

The former Arsenal coach was disappointed after the game but was magnanimous in defeat.

“When you have lost the moment is sad for everybody,” he told BBC Sport.

“We can’t be happy because of the way we were doing good matches, good battles against Juventus, Bayern Munich, and then some excellence against Liverpool.”

“They deserve to play in the final.”

First-half performance

“First half tonight we showed everybody we are a good team as well and we can have chances too.”

“But the difference in two matches was with them.”

Villarreal will return to action over the weekend against Sevilla at home.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will face either Real Madrid or Manchester City in the finals of the Champions League.
