Liverpool defender speaks out on prospect of facing Darwin Nunez in training

Liverpool centre-back Natt Phillips has opened up on the prospect of facing Liverpool new boy Darwin Nunez in training.

Liverpool paid an initial £64m for the striker, with an extra £12.8m payable after a certain number of appearances and then another £8.5m payable in success-related add-ons – totalling just over £85m.

This makes Nunez the 4th-most expensive in the history of the Premier League behind only Jack Grealish, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba.

The Uruguayan had a solid 2020/21 which saw him score 12 and assist 13 in 43 outings across all competitions. It is this past season, though, where he has really come into his own.

Nunez netted 26 and assisted four in 28 league games for Benfica whilst also finding the net on six occasions in the Champions League.

Now, the powerful young striker will be testing himself in pre-season, with Liverpool preparing to face Manchester United on Tuesday July 12th.

Before that, the South American will, of course, be training with his new teammates on a regular basis.

And now, Natt Phillips has shared his thoughts on the prospect of facing Liverpool’s record signing on the training pitch:

“Obviously it’s nice to test yourself against top players and he’s certainly a top player,” Phillips stated. “He’s obviously a dangerous player as well so he’ll put me to a good test in training.

“It’ll be interesting to see how he is. It’s exciting for everyone at the club and all the fans to have him come in. He’s still young as well, so he’s certainly an exciting player to come into the club.”
