Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain to sign France international forward Bradley Barcola in a deal worth about £120m (€140m).

More than £100m of the proposed package is guaranteed, although no contracts have yet been signed and the transfer remains to be completed.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon are leading negotiations, with the clubs working through important final details on Thursday morning.

Barcola’s possible arrival at Anfield could have implications for Cody Gakpo, who has been repeatedly linked with Tottenham Hotspur and has also attracted interest from Manchester City during the summer.

Liverpool and PSG held significant talks on Tuesday to clarify the terms of the proposed transfer, according to The Athletic, with Barcola understood to be committed to joining the Merseyside club.

The 23-year-old became Liverpool’s leading candidate to replace Mohamed Salah earlier this summer. The Athletic reported on 29 July that Liverpool were preparing an opening offer for the forward.

Barcola still has two years remaining on his PSG contract, but he has made clear that he does not want to sign an extension with the European champions. He was also omitted from PSG’s squad for their opening Ligue 1 fixture, a 2-2 draw against Rennes on Sunday.

The forward generally operates on the left wing, although he can also play on the opposite flank. Last season, he competed with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue for a place in PSG’s attack.

Barcola was used mainly as a substitute during the later stages of PSG’s Champions League campaign, as Luis Enrique’s side won the competition in successive years.

Despite facing strong competition for playing time, Barcola appeared 49 times for PSG during the 2025-26 campaign. He scored 13 goals and provided seven assists as the club retained the Ligue 1 title while also achieving European success.

Since establishing himself in PSG’s first team during the 2021-22 season, Barcola has made 152 appearances, scoring 39 goals and registering 37 assists.

A product of the Lyon academy, Barcola also played a significant part for France at this summer’s World Cup. He featured in all eight of his country’s matches and scored three goals.

The proposed move would represent a major investment by Liverpool as they seek to strengthen their attacking options following Salah’s departure. However, the agreement remains provisional until the outstanding negotiations are concluded and the formal documentation is signed.
