Lionel Messi’s father reveals hope of Barcelona return

Video: Lionel Messi’s father reveals hope of Barcelona return

The father of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi, on Sunday, dropped a fresh hint over his son’s long-term future.

The subject of Messi’s future has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines across the European media over recent months.

This comes amid what has proven an altogether underwhelming debut campaign in France with PSG, on the back of his free agent departure from beloved Barcelona in the summer.

Though reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated, with Messi having directly contributed to 24 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions, fresh failure in the Champions League saw both the South American and attacking partner in crime Neymar targeted in ruthless fashion on the part of the PSG faithful.

Reports, in turn, quickly began to spread hinting at a potential Parc des Princes exit this summer, with former club Barca one destination singled out as a possible landing spot.

And, on Sunday, Messi’s father has only served to add fuel to the fire regarding a potential Camp Nou return.

Approached by reporters upon departing Barcelona airport, the Argentine was drawn on his son’s situation at club level at present. And Jorge, who also acts as Messi’s agent, was not shy in confirming:

“I hope Leo can return to Barcelona, one day.”

At the double

The latest word on Messi’s future of course comes fresh off the back of the veteran attacker providing a timely reminder of his talents to all associated with PSG during the club’s latest outing on Saturday night.

After being afforded a start in the capital giants’ Ligue 1 meeting with Montpellier, Messi bagged a brace, to set his side on their way to a comfortable 4-0 triumph.
