Matchday 3 of the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season goes down this weekend. On Sunday night, Lille host Paris Saint-Germain for what is destined to be the standout tie of the round.

As you would expect, PSG find themselves atop the table after two games. In fact, they are the only side to have claimed maximum points this term.

Lille are also unbeaten this season, having taken four points from a possible six. Consequently, they sit two points behind PSG as we head into Macthday 3.

Lille hammered Auxerre 4-1 on Matchday 1, racking up 61% possession and 16 shots. They even found themselves 2-0 up inside three minutes and 3-0 up before half-time.

Despite notching 70% possession and 16 shots last time out, Lille were held to a 1-1 draw by Nantes. To make matter worse, the hosts recorded a solitary attempt on target.

Thanks to a positive end to last season, Lille have only lost three of their previous 19 home encounters in Ligue 1.

Given that each of Lille’s past three home league games have produced over 2.5 goals, Sunday’s showdown is destined to be a high-scoring clash.

Meanwhile, PSG kicked off their campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Clermont Foot. Lionel Messi bagged a brace, with Neymar, Achraf Hakimi, and Marquinhos completing the scoring.

The Parisians also scored five goals last time out, sealing a 5-2 win over Montpellier. This time around, Neymar netted a double.

The defending champions head into Matchday 3 on an 11-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1, following a strong end the previous campaign.

When you look at the bigger picture, PSG have only suffered three defeats in their last 31 league encounters.

Head-to-head: PSG did the league double over Lille last term, winning 2-1 at home before claiming a 1-5 victory in the reverse fixture.

Across all competitions, nine of the previous 14 meetings between Lille and PSG have dished up over 2.5 goals.

Team news: Lille’s key player is Jonathan David, who has chalked up two goals and two assists across the first two games this season.

PSG will be without injured pair Timothee Pembele and Julian Draxler on Sunday. Remarkably, Neymar already has three goals and three assists this term.

Lille are expected to put up a decent fight against PSG, but the defending champions shouldn’t struggle to claim all three points on Sunday.

Forebet predicts that Lille and PSG will combine for over 4.5 goals. Unfortunately for Lille, the majority of those goals are likely to be scored by PSG.
