Communications Director for Legon Cities, Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang, described the decision to sack head coach Yaw Acheampong as a difficult but necessary move.
Acheampong took over from Paa Kwesi Fabin midway through the season, tasked with revitalizing the struggling club.
However, inconsistent results and a slide into the Ghana Premier League’s relegation zone prompted the club to end his tenure.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Agyemang explained, “It was a hard decision we had to take; results had not been great and we found ourselves sucked into the relegation zone and we felt we had to do something, we felt we had to move in a different direction”
He added, “It was a tough decision, but management was of the opinion that results were not coming in like we wanted when we hired Mr. Yaw Acheampong.”
In the interim, the club has appointed Tijani Abdul Rahim to take charge as they fight for survival.
With 30 matches played, Legon Cities currently sit 17th on the league table with 25 points—deep in the relegation zone and in urgent need of a turnaround in their final games.
