That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who delivered a fresh update on the Whites’ search for a new striker to GIVEMESPORT this week.
“There’s a few backup options for them, Brereton Diaz is one of them and he’s one they’re considering,” he revealed.
The Yorkshire outfit have missed out on a move for Paris Saint-Germain gem Arnaud Kalimuendo, who has signed for Stade Rennes, whilst reports linking them to his new teammate, Martin Terrier appear to have gone quiet.
Brereton Diaz could be a viable alternative.

It’s no secret that manager Jesse Marsch is in dire need of additional firepower before the transfer deadline on September 1st and the Blackburn Rovers talisman could be a perfect ‘plan B’ to Patrick Bamford, who has suffered from plenty of injuries in the past 12 months.
The Chile international delivered a standout campaign last season as he finished third in the Championship’s goalscoring charts, having found the net 21 times in 36 appearances, as per Transfermarkt.

His time was split between the centre-forward role and out on the left flank, meaning his versatility adds a lot to the squad too, though given Jack Harrison’s start to the campaign, he is likely to settle up top.
The former Manchester City gem has provided two assists in Leeds’ opening two games and ranks as Marsch’s second-best performer – now add a fit and firing talisman to the mix and the pair could explode at Elland Road.
On Saturday, the goalless Bamford was withdrawn early for injury, so the need for a new frontman is only going to increase and time is starting to run out.
Once described as an “extraordinary talent” by his former manager Tony Mowbray and a “goal machine” by The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the 23-year-old could help convert the chances being created by Harrison, who leads the squad with 11 key passes – eight more than any other player.
Diaz’s 0.25 goals per shot on target per 90 would suggest that he’s an ideal candidate to do just that, with Bamford struggling for form and injury right now.
As such, director of football Victor Orta must look to get this one over the line heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window. It may cost him a reported £20m but on the above evidence, the Chilean sensation would be worth every penny.
