Former Ghana U17 head coach Frimpong Manso says stepping down from the role to focus on Bibiani GoldStars was the best decision for all parties, even if it came with some reluctance.
The 64-year-old parted ways with the Black Starlets just a month before their WAFU B U17 Championship campaign in Nigeria. The tournament coincides with GoldStars’ debut in the CAF Champions League, creating what Manso described as an unavoidable clash of responsibilities.
“If you look at September, all the programmes are in September,” he told Joy Sports.
“And it will not be good not to concentrate on one fully. Rather, if we are to do it anyhow, it will not be good for me, it will not be good for the U17s, and GoldStars as well. So it’s something that we sat down and talked about. For me, I think that is a good decision.”
Despite his exit, Manso insisted he has not closed the door on a future return to the youth national team.
“Not that I didn’t want to be with the U17s. I’m very sure it’s just a matter of time. Maybe something of that sort will come again. That opportunity may come again,” he added.
The Ghana Football Association has since confirmed Prosper Narteh Ogum as his successor.
