Ghana midfielder Lawrence Agyekum scored a goal in Cercle Brugge’s 5-1 thrashing of Patro Eisden in the Belgian Pro League relegation playoff first leg on Sunday.
Agyekum opened the scoring with a composed finish in the 8th minute, set up by Felipe Augusto.
Cercle dominated the match, with Paris Brunner scoring twice and Felipe Augusto adding another goal. Thibo Somers completed the rout in the 84th minute.
Agyekum’s goal showcased his growing influence in the team’s midfield, where he now has three goals and two assists in 34 appearances this season.
Fellow Ghanaian midfielder Francis Abu played 73 minutes for Cercle. Patro Eisden’s Congolese striker Vancy Romeo Mabanza scored a consolation goal in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late.
The win gives Cercle a commanding lead heading into the return fixture.
Agyekum repaid Cercle’s fate in him with the goal after he sealed a permanent move to the club earlier in the week.
