After nearly 10 years at the club, Sean Dyche left Burnley with eight games of the Premier League season to play.
With the Clarets sat 18th in the Premier League and four points from safety, it seemed likely the Lancashire outfit would be relegated to the Championship.
However, Burnley have since appointed Mike Jackson as their interim manager and, to the surprise of many, Jackson has been able to turn the Clarets’ campaign around.
Burnley would draw 1-1 with West Ham in the first game of the post-Dyche era. They have since picked up wins over Southampton, Wolves and Watford – an impressive run considering their last game under Dyche saw them lose 2-0 vs Championship-bound Norwich.
Burnley manager update
But whilst Jackson looks set to be given the reigns at Turf Moor for the rest of 2021/22, Burnley do still need to appoint a permanent manager at some point.
Chris Wilder of Middlesbrough was one of the early favourites to land the role, but he has since largely distanced himself from it.
Now, on Monday, The Athletic have provided a fresh update on the situation, linking two names with the job.
They report that Burnley are close to agreeing a shortlist of candidates for the job, with Vincent Kompany under consideration for the role, along with Kjetil Knutsen, whose Bodo Glimt side beat Jose Mourinho’s Roma 6-1 in the season’s Europa Conference League group stage.
Understand Anderlecht’s Vincent Kompany and Bodo/Glimt’s Kjetil Knutsen are both being considered for the Burnley job.

Vincent Kompany is currently priced at 3/1 to become the new Burnley boss with 888sport, whilst Knutsen is priced at 10/1.
Mike Jackson, meanwhile, can be backed to get the job on a permanent basis with odds of 9/2.
