Former Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi has called on the Black Stars technical team to approach player selection for the 2026 World Cup with clear heads and no sentiment.
He believes England-born duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eddie Nketiah should be considered if they can strengthen the national team.
The two attackers have been heavily discussed since Ghana booked a place at this year’s global tournament.
Despite years of engagement by the FA, neither player featured in the qualifiers nor publicly declared a switch of allegiance.
“The Black Stars is open to every Ghanaian who is eligible to play,” Nyantakyi told JoyNews.
“Some people become a bit sentimental and emotional, ‘oh, this guy dumped Ghana’, but I am interested in people who can help us achieve results.”
Nyantakyi further stressed the need for merit-based selection.
“People like Eddie Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi, let’s take out emotions and give them the chance if the coach thinks they can compete favourably.”
Nketiah has scored four goals in all competitions for Crystal Palace this season, while Hudson-Odoi has found the net three times for Nottingham Forest.
