Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has expressed strong belief in his team’s ability to advance beyond the group stage of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the Falcons of Jediane are ready to compete with the continent’s best.
Since taking charge, the former Ghana boss has overseen a clear upward curve in Sudan’s performances, restoring belief, structure and ambition within the squad as they return to the AFCON spotlight.
As Sudan prepare to open their campaign against Algeria today at the Stade Moulay Hassan, Appiah says the objective is clear: make a statement and challenge perceptions.
“Sudan is well prepared for the competition, and we hope to present ourselves in the best possible way during the finals,” Appiah told CAFOnline.
Drawn alongside Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso, Sudan face a demanding Group C, but Appiah remains unfazed by the challenge.
“We are in a strong group with Algeria, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso,” he said. “But Sudan is also a good team, and I am confident that we will progress beyond the group stage in this tournament.”
Sudan head into AFCON 2025 battle-hardened after competing at the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar, a run Appiah believes has further strengthened his side’s readiness for continental competition.
With confidence growing and expectations rising, Sudan will be aiming to translate preparation into performance as they seek to write a new chapter in their AFCON history.
