Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee member Kwesi Appiah is backing the Porcupine Warriors to give a strong account of themselves when they begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign later this month.
The Ghana FA Cup champions face Nigerian side Kwara United in the preliminary round, with the first leg scheduled for Kumasi between September 19 and 21 before the return fixture in Nigeria a week later.
Kotoko have struggled to make their mark on the continent in recent years, but Appiah — who also doubles as Sudan head coach ; believes the presence of club leadership and collective effort will push the team forward.
“For some time now, Asante Kotoko has not been themselves. But the King himself is now involved, and that has brought everyone together to make sure Kotoko does well this year,” Appiah told Pulse Ghana.
He admitted the tie against Kwara United will be difficult but is confident the players will step up.
“The important thing is to go out there and give your best. I don’t see it as Kwara being better than Kotoko or Kotoko being better than Kwara. It will be tough, but I believe Kotoko will give a good account of themselves,” he added.
The winner of the tie will advance to face Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the next round.
