Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has unveiled his final squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), placing heavy trust in domestic champions Al-Hilal Khartoum.
A total of 13 players from Al-Hilal, who recently completed a league and Super Cup double, have been included in the 27-man list.
The team is scheduled to travel to Zanzibar on July 30 to finalise preparations ahead of the tournament, which runs from August 2 to 30, 2025.
Drawn in Group D, the Falcons of Jediane face a tough test against Nigeria, Congo Brazzaville, and defending champions Senegal.
This will be Sudan’s third CHAN appearance, with their best outing coming on home soil in 2011 when they finished third. Their last participation was in 2018.
Appiah, who is a former Ghana Black Stars boss, is leaning on experience with key names like goalkeeper Ahmed Al-Fateh, midfield general Mohamed Al-Rasheed Mahmoud, and striker Mohamed Abdulrahman Yousif forming the spine of the squad.
Sudan will be hoping to punch above their weight in what is widely regarded as one of the competition’s most challenging groups.
