Highly-rated striker Kwame Opoku has confirmed he is moving on from Asante Kotoko, saying the Ghanaian club made him the person he is today.
The 27-year-old forward used his farewell message to thank the club’s supporters, his former team-mates and the management figures who helped shape his career. He also acknowledged that ending his time with the Porcupine Warriors had been a difficult decision because of the close relationship he built with the club and its supporters.
Opoku said he had eventually chosen to accept the situation and move forward, while making clear how much he would miss those connected with Asante Kotoko.
“I have finally decided to accept and move on. I am going to miss everyone, especially the friends of Bayie9 and the fans,” Opoku said in his farewell message.
The striker also extended his best wishes to the club’s current technical team, management and board. In his message, he remembered the work of previous management figures as well, including Nana Yaw Amuah Apinkra.
Although Opoku is leaving Asante Kotoko, he stressed that his departure should not be interpreted as a complete break with the club. He said he would continue to regard himself as part of the Kotoko family regardless of where his career takes him next.
“Porcupines, you only lost a player, but I am still part of this great family wherever I find myself. Kotoko made me who I am today,” he added.
The forward’s message reflected the significance of his time at Asante Kotoko and the bond he formed with the club’s supporters. Rather than focusing only on his departure, Opoku used the statement to recognise the people and institutions he believes contributed to his development.
He concluded by thanking both the club and its fans, while describing his exit as a departure on positive terms. His final words were a message of goodwill to everyone connected with Asante Kotoko.
“I wish everyone well, may we all be great. Thank you, ‘Kum Apem,’” he concluded.
