Veteran football administrator Kofi Manu says Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku should not be eligible for a third term despite the recent extension of the presidential term limit.
At the 31st Ordinary Congress in Prampram on Tuesday, the GFA amended its statutes, increasing the presidency limit from two to three four-year terms. The decision passed overwhelmingly, with 114 votes in favour, six against, and three abstentions.
However, Kofi Manu insists the change should not apply retroactively, arguing Okraku was elected in 2019 under the old rule.
“You don’t make a law to take retrospective effect. Since Kurt Okraku took office based on the existing status that had two terms, he cannot benefit from any extension,” Manu said
Okraku’s current mandate runs until 2027. It remains unclear whether the CAF second vice president will seek re-election if eligible.
