Ghana are up against Uruguay on Friday in the quarter-finals and the former defender who starred in some of the country’s greatest triumphs they can add another significant first to their impressive collection.
“We were the first team to win an Olympic medal in 1992, we won Africa’s first Under-20 World Cup and now I think we have a fantastic chance to become the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup,” he told KickOffGhana.com.
“Uruguay is a good team and they have showed that here but Ghana has been good too and this presents a good opportunity,” he added.
Kuffour wants the Black Stars to keep their eye on the big prize and not consider the quarter final the height of their achievement.
“I was very emotional after the win over the USA because the guys have done really well for themselves given how young they are but they can take it one step further.”
