Mohammed Kudus insists he still prefers to play as a midfielder despite excelling in his make-shift role at Ajax.
Interim-boss John Heitenga has played the Ghanaian international on the right-wing to much success since taking charge.
The 22-year-old has scored or provided an assist for Ajax in their last four games, three goals and one assist.
Kudus was the match-winner for the club in their 1-0 win over FC Twente in the Dutch Cup on Thursday evening.
“Is a new position for me but the most important thing having the freedom to play how I want to play and the coach gives me that freedom and I don’t feel restricted from how I want to play. Even though I still prefer to play as a midfielder but even if I play on the right-wing you can see I still do my best for the team. so is a new position for me but I think it is good for my development so I just do my best to help the team” he said after his man of the match performance.
Former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder also primarily used Kudus as a false-nine.
“In the last three sometimes I come in the midfield, the good thing is that we have players that can switch and play in different positions as me also which makes us unpredictable. It’s really good that we can mix up the role, sometimes I am on the wide and sometimes Steven Bergius goes on the wide so it confuses the opponent and makes us unpredictable. The good thing is the freedom in the team”
