Former Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has labeled Mohammed Kudus as his best signing of all-time, according to club legend Rafael Van der Vaart.
Overmars was the mastermind behind the Ghanaian international’s transfer to the Eredivisie giants for €9 million.
Kudus was signed on a five-year contract from Danish Nordsjælland in July, 2020.
Despite a slow to start to life in Amsterdam largely due to injuries, the 22 year old has cemented his place as one of the finest young talents in Europe this season.
He has scored 12 goals and provided three assist in 26 games for Ajax in the ongoing campaign.
Van der Vaart, who now works as a pundit revealed details of a conversation he had with Overmars when Ajax first signed the Black Stars midfielder.
“When I saw Kudus for the first time during a friendly, I spoke with Marc Overmars and he said to me: ‘Rafael, this is my best signing of all time, this one will deliver us €100M.'”
Big praise from the man who helped the club sign the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Andre Onana, Frenkie De Jong, and Nicola Tagliafico.
Overmars joined Royal Antwerp earlier this year following a decade as director of football affairs at Ajax.
