For his first opening match in La Liga, Xavi had decided to establish his rookie Christensen with Eric Garcia at his side to compose his central hinge. Ronald Araujo, a professional central defender, started on the right side. A position that is still lacking at Barça 15 days before the transfer market closes. Worse still, Pique would only be the fifth central defender in the hierarchy of the Barça coach, behind Araujo, Christensen, Eric Garcia and soon Jules Koundé. The French international should be registered next week on the La Liga lists. As a reminder, he is the only rookie not yet registered. The former Bordeaux player could be lined up for Barça’s next match in La Liga on August 21 against Real Sociedad. Good news for Barça, but bad news for Gérard Piqué, who at 35 would therefore become the fifth central defender, which would ensure him very little playing time. Unless Araujo definitely passes the holder in the right lane of defense, in which case Pique would have a better chance of starting matches this season.
