Asante Kotoko have identified Bechem United’s in-form goalkeeper, Dari Aziz Haruna, as a potential replacement for Frederick Asare amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the latter’s contract situation.
Asare, who joined Kotoko on a free transfer in 2022, has yet to sign a new deal, with his current contract set to expire in June 2025.
Despite reportedly agreeing terms, the club appears to be preparing for a possible departure, lining up Aziz Haruna as a contingency ahead of the summer transfer window.
Haruna has been a standout performer for Bechem United this season, featuring in 27 Ghana Premier League matches.
He has conceded just 19 goals while keeping an impressive 15 clean sheets—a record that has caught the attention of the Porcupine Warriors.
Asare, meanwhile, has seen reduced playing time this season, managing only 15 league appearances with seven clean sheets and 12 goals conceded.
His limited role has also impacted his international career, following a maiden Black Stars call-up in 2023 that has yet to translate into an appearance.
Kotoko’s interest in Haruna signals their intent to strengthen the squad defensively, whether or not Asare remains at the club beyond the current campaign.
