Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has expressed concern over the quality of players currently at Asante Kotoko, stating they fall short of the standards expected at the club.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, the KMA boss compared Kotoko’s level to that of African giants Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns, admitting that the Ghanaian club is miles behind.
“The players are not up to the standard of Kotoko. When you look at the quality of Al Ahly and Sundowns, it’s clear we are far behind. But I believe with the right coaching, these players can still make an impact,” he noted.
He pointed to financial disparity as a key reason for the gulf in quality. “Your competitors are buying players for $1 million, and you’re buying players for ¢250,000.
The quality will obviously be different. This boils down to the lack of financial stability in our football,” he added.
