Kotoko mourns fans Dr. Omane Boamah and Dr. Sarpong after tragic GAF helicopter crash

Asante Kotoko have expressed deep sorrow over the death of two of their cherished supporters — Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Dr. Samuel Sarpong ; in Wednesday’s fatal military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.

The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that all eight occupants of the Z9 helicopter died after it went down in the Sikaman area near Adansi Akrofuom on August 6, 2025.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Porcupine Warriors said they were devastated by the news.

“Asante Kotoko SC mourns the tragic loss of our cherished fans, Dr. Omane Boamah and former KMA boss Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and six others in today’s Akrofuom plane crash. We extend our deepest condolences to their families and the nation. May their souls rest in peace,” the club shared.

The victims of the crash include Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The other passengers were:

  • Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
  • Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology
  • Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
  • Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the NDC
  • Mr. Samuel Aboagye – Former parliamentary candidate
