Tension has intensified within the Asante Kotoko camp after a section of supporters reportedly stormed the club’s training grounds at Adako Jachie, forcing interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu to abandon the session.

Owusu, who previously served as assistant to former head coach Karim Zito, was appointed by the club’s Interim Management Committee to temporarily steer the team following Zito’s resignation earlier in the week. He was expected to oversee preparations for Sunday’s high-stakes Ghana Premier League Super Clash against Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

However, his appointment has not gone down well with some members of the Kotoko faithful. On Wednesday evening, aggrieved supporters allegedly invaded the training facility, prevented Owusu from taking charge of the session and demanded that he step aside.

Eyewitness reports suggest the situation quickly grew tense, with the coach seeking refuge in his vehicle as fans surrounded the training area. The session eventually resumed under the supervision of assistant coach Hamza Obeng.

The incident further compounds the uncertainty surrounding Kotoko’s build-up to one of the most crucial matches of their season. The Porcupine Warriors currently trail league leaders Medeama SC by eight points and have already exited the MTN FA Cup, leaving their campaign hanging in the balance as pressure continues to mount both on and off the pitch.
