Black Satellites head coach Maxwell Konadu has praised Ghana’s determination after they recovered from an early sending-off to draw 1-1 with Burkina Faso in their second Group B match at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship.
Ghana were forced to play most of the game with 10 men after an early red card disrupted their plans and placed them under sustained pressure. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Black Satellites adapted effectively and fought back to claim a point.
Konadu had begun the match with his preferred 4-3-3 formation, but the dismissal required a significant tactical change. The former Asante Kotoko coach reorganised the team into a 3-5-1 system, a switch he said helped Ghana regain control of the contest and develop a greater threat in attack.
Burkina Faso took the lead, but Ghana responded strongly and eventually levelled through Joseph Badu. The equaliser reflected the team’s determination to remain in the match despite having fewer players on the pitch.
Konadu believed Ghana had done enough to win all three points. He praised his players for their work rate, discipline and resilience, particularly given the difficulties created by the early red card.
The coach also acknowledged that his side had been unfortunate not to add a second goal. Ghana created several opportunities after changing shape, but they were unable to find the decisive finish that would have completed the comeback.
Instead, the draw leaves the Black Satellites with their final Group B fixture still to come against Togo. Konadu said the team would now turn its attention to that match, with Ghana determined to secure victory and keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
The result extended a challenging contest for Ghana, who had to balance their attacking ambitions with the need to remain organised after losing a player. Konadu’s tactical adjustment allowed the team to compete more effectively and produce chances, while the players’ discipline helped them withstand the impact of the dismissal.
Ghana’s response after falling behind was central to the outcome. Rather than allowing Burkina Faso to control the game, the Black Satellites continued to work hard, restored parity through Badu and pushed for a second goal. Although that effort did not produce a winner, Konadu said the performance demonstrated the character within the squad.
Their next meeting with Togo will therefore carry significant importance. Ghana must now transfer the same determination shown against Burkina Faso into their final group match as they seek the victory required to maintain their challenge at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship.
