Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has called on corporate Ghana and state institutions to back their praise of the Black Queens with real, long-term investment in women’s sports.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, July 29, Adams said Ghana’s third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) should be a turning point.
“The performance of the Black Queens must serve as a national rallying point. This is the moment for state institutions, corporate Ghana and the general public to move beyond symbolic praise and commit to sustained investment in women’s sports,” he told Parliament.
He praised the Queens not only as athletes but as powerful ambassadors of Ghanaian excellence.
“This is not just about football. It’s a powerful message that when we invest in our women and give them the platform, results will follow.”
The Black Queens made a triumphant return from Morocco after clinching bronze ; their first WAFCON medal since 2016. They overcame South Africa 4-3 on penalties in the third-place playoff after losing to hosts Morocco in the semi-finals.
