Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has applauded the University for Development Studies (UDS) football team for their remarkable feat at the World University Football Championship, calling it a proud moment for Ghana.
The minister joined fans and officials at the Kotoka International Airport to welcome the team home after their heroic triumph in China.
“Your victory has only come to cement what Ghana is capable of doing,” Adams told the players, commending their hard work and determination.
UDS made history on September 28, 2025, by becoming the first African university to win the global competition after edging Brazil’s Paulista University (UNIP) 2-1 in extra time in Dalian.
Excited fans, students, and dignitaries turned up in large numbers to celebrate the champions upon arrival on Sunday, October 5.
An official ceremony is being planned to honour the players and technical staff, with the team set to present the trophy to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, October 7.
