Klopp joins Sir Alex Ferguson in exclusive club after Liverpool’s FA Cup win

Jurgen Klopp joins Sir Alex Ferguson in exclusive two-man club after Liverpool’s FA Cup triumph

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has etched his name indellibly into the history books of English football on Saturday evening.

Klopp of course guided his rampant Reds back into action a short time ago.

With hopes of an unprecedented quadruple still alive, Liverpool made the trip to Wembley for a League Cup finale rematch against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, on this occasion in the FA Cup showpiece.

And, as proved the case back in February, once more on Saturday, it was the Merseyside giants who emerged triumphant.

After the two sides could not be separated across a full 120 minutes of action, proceedings were sent to a penalty shootout, setting the stage for Kostas Tsimikas to secure surprise hero status in slotting the winning spot-kick beyond Edouard Mendy.

And, as alluded to above, in the process of his stopper’s strike from 12 yards finding the net, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp secured for himself a piece of English football history.

As per statisticians Opta, the German has joined Manchester United icon Sir Alex Ferguson as just the 2nd manager to ever win all of the European Cup/Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and the English top-flight, all with the same club.

Salah concern

On an otherwise stellar evening for all associated with Liverpool, though, one major concern was forthcoming on the personnel front.

This was forthcoming just beyond the half-hour mark in proceedings, when star attacker Mohamed Salah, just two weeks out from the Champions League final, was forced to limp off with what appeared to be a muscular injury.
