Asante Kotoko have appointed Karim Zito as the club’s permanent head coach following a remarkable turnaround in form under his interim leadership.
Zito, who took over midway through the second round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, has guided the Porcupine Warriors to a strong finish; steering them into the MTN FA Cup final and keeping them in contention for the league title with just two games remaining.
The veteran tactician, formerly of Dreams FC and Ghana’s U-20 side, stepped in after the dismissal of Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum, who was relieved of his duties due to a string of poor results.
Since Zito’s arrival, Kotoko have gone unbeaten in all competitions, reigniting hopes of silverware and a return to the continental stage.
In recognition of his impact, the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), chaired by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, has confirmed that Zito will lead the team into next season as the substantive head coach.
Should Kotoko clinch either the league title or the FA Cup, they will qualify for continental football—CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup; next season.
Zito is no stranger to African competition, having famously guided Dreams FC to the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup in their debut campaign.
Kotoko are set to face Medeama SC on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium in their penultimate league fixture, where they will look to extend their unbeaten streak and strengthen their title push.
