Chief Executive Officer of Karela United, Elloeny Amande, has sharply opposed the move to extend the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President’s tenure from two to three terms.
The proposal is among the statutory reforms expected to be discussed at the GFA’s next Ordinary Congress on August 12.
However, Amande believes the idea contradicts the promises of reform and transparency made after the 2018 football crisis.
“I find it slapping the face of good governance,” Amande said.
“And I dare say it’s a betrayal of the principles that underpin the 2019 GFA statutes and regulations that were brought into play.”
He further questioned the motive behind the proposal, warning that it could open the door to entrenched leadership at the expense of the sport’s progress.
“This, to me, is a clear move to grab power, to hold on to it, and to perpetuate a dynasty; a cycle. It’s not in the interest of the game,” he stressed.
With the GFA Congress just days away, the debate over the proposed amendment is expected to intensify, as stakeholders weigh its potential impact on the governance of Ghana football.
