Southampton manager Russell Martin has emphasized the importance of Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana maintaining his fitness to fully unleash his exceptional talent.
Martin’s remarks came in the aftermath of Southampton’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the fifth round of the FA Cup, where they missed out on a quarterfinal clash with Manchester United.
Reflecting on Sulemana’s missed opportunities in front of goal during the first half against Liverpool, Martin addressed the winger’s history of injuries, which have hindered his career progression since his time at Stade Rennes.
“It’s now about staying fit in order for him to get to the level he is capable of. He is a young guy who is learning all the time and will be an important player for us. I think he is a little frustrated that he has had injuries, then got into a flow and then had to come out with injuries again,” Martin conveyed to Daily Echo.
Despite his potential, Sulemana is yet to score for Southampton this season, largely due to his ongoing battle with injuries.
His injury struggles also led to his absence from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations for Ghana, further highlighting the significance of maintaining his fitness for both club and country.
