Ghana international Joseph Paintsil assisted two of the goals as leaders KRC Genk defeated Club Brugge 3-1 in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.
The match-day 19 fixture at Cegeka Arena saw the winger play full throttle while two compatriots Kamal Sowah and Denis Odoi come on as substitutes for Club Brugge in the final 10 minutes.
Skipper Hans Vanaken sidefooted it into the far corner to give the visitors the lead in the 21st minute.
Club Brugge couldn’t hold on to the lead for a long time. Four minutes later, Paintsil provided his first assist by whipping in a cross which was headed in by Carlos Cuesta.
Genk almost took the lead a few minutes later when Paintsil fed the ball to Paul Onuachu, but goalkeeper Simon Mignolet denied the Nigerian.
After some consistent pressure by the hosts, Paintsil found Onuachu with a low cross in front of goal which the striker cut past his marker and fired home from close range to make it 2-1 in the 67th minute.
Genk captain Bryan Heynen wrapped up the 3-1 win with his goal 9 minutes from time.
Joseph Paintsil now has seven assists and also seven goals for KRC Genk in all competitions so far in the 2022/23 season.
