Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil has rejected a GHS100,000 compensation offer from the Multimedia Group and sports broadcaster Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, in an ongoing defamation lawsuit.
The suit, which stems from allegedly defamatory comments made during a sports program on the network, sees Paintsil demanding GHS25 million in total; GHS20 million from Multimedia and GHS5 million from Countryman Songo personally. He claims the remarks tarnished his image, credibility, and legacy in Ghanaian football.
Sources close to the former Ghana international describe the GHS100,000 offer as “disrespectful,” citing the extent of the reputational damage and emotional toll the controversy has caused.
Paintsil is being represented by Theophilus Tawiah of WTS Nobisfields, a leading Ghanaian law firm known for its litigation strength and part of the global WTS legal network.
At the last court sitting on July 18, 2025, the judge ordered Multimedia and Osei Agyemang to file their witness statements within two weeks, following prior non-compliance. The matter has been adjourned to October 17 for a Case Management Conference.
Paintsil remains firm in his resolve to see the case through to its legal conclusion, insisting that his pursuit is not just about personal redress but a broader call for media responsibility and accountability.
