Assistant coach of the Ghana national football team, John Paintsil, has expressed strong belief in Ghana’s ability to reach the latter stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the squad has the experience to compete for a semifinal or even final berth.
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
After group-stage exits at the 2014 tournament in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar, Paintsil believes the current generation has matured and learned valuable lessons from past campaigns.
“We have enough experience to be in the semi-finals or final of the 2026 World Cup,” he told 3Sports.
The Black Stars will open their Group L campaign against Panama national football team on June 17, before facing England national football team on June 23. They will conclude the group stage against Croatia national football team on June 27.
As part of preparations, Ghana are scheduled for international friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team in March, followed by a pre-tournament clash with Mexico national football team.
