Ghana fell 2-0 to Japan in the 2025 Kirin Cup friendly, a game where the Black Stars struggled to match the hosts’ pace and precision in Aichi.

Takumi Minamino struck early before Ritsu Doan doubled the lead after the break, capping off a tough game that also saw Abu Francis suffer a worrying injury.

Kickoffghana.com provides ratings for the performance of the Black Stars players.

Joseph Tetteh Anan – 6.5

Made the first save of the game early on and produced a couple of solid stops. Couldn’t do much about the goals.

Derrick Arthur Kohn – 6.5

Fired one effort wide but recovered well with an excellent block to prevent a second Japan goal earlier in the half.

Jerome Opoku – 5

Part of a backline that struggled with Japan’s quick exchanges. Had steady moments but was exposed during key sequences.

Caleb Yirenkyi – 5

Worked hard on the flank but found it difficult to contain Japan’s movement. Decent outlet going forward.

Jonas Adjei-Ajetey – 5

Some good defensive interventions but the defensive line was breached too easily for the opener.

Kojo Peprah Opong – 4

Battled well but caught out by Japan’s sharp passing in transition.

Francis Abu – 6

Competed well in midfield until his unfortunate injury halted his game. Tough moment for him and the team.

Kwasi Sibo – 5

Showed good composure in spells but struggled when Japan pressed aggressively.

Kamaldeen Sulemana – 5

Had flashes of pace and intent but couldn’t create consistent danger.

Antoine Semenyo (C) – 5.5

Lost the ball in the buildup to Japan’s opener and found it hard to influence the match in attack. Led with effort, though.

Brandon Thomas-Asante – 6

Attempted a difficult volley that forced a corner and worked hard throughout, but lacked clear service.
