Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed he was diagnosed with a neurological dysfunction after collapsing during a pre-season match against RB Leipzig.
The Germany international went down in the closing stages of Bayern’s 3-1 victory, with the club’s medical team immediately attending to him. Musiala was later seen walking away from the incident on his own.
The collapse came only four days after Musiala had suffered a similar incident during another friendly against Heidenheim. The two episodes occurred during Bayern’s pre-season schedule and raised concern about the midfielder’s health.
Warm conditions during the match against RB Leipzig had been suggested as a possible explanation for Musiala’s collapse. However, Musiala subsequently clarified in a post on Instagram that a medical condition was responsible.
He said he had been diagnosed with a neurological dysfunction, providing an explanation for what had happened on the pitch. His announcement followed the second collapse in the space of four days.
Musiala has recently represented Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team was eliminated in the round of 32. The Bayern Munich midfielder’s disclosure comes after his involvement in the tournament and the subsequent pre-season fixtures.
The incidents against Heidenheim and RB Leipzig were similar in that both involved Musiala collapsing during friendly matches. In the latest case, Bayern’s medical staff were able to assist him before he was seen walking independently.
The initial suggestion that the conditions during the game may have played a role was therefore replaced by Musiala’s explanation that an underlying neurological dysfunction had been diagnosed.
Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over RB Leipzig remained the result of the match, but the main concern surrounding Musiala was his condition after he went down late in the game. His Instagram post provided clarification after the event and linked the collapse to a medical issue rather than simply the warm weather.
Musiala’s announcement follows a period in which he has been involved at both international and club level. He played for Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup before returning to feature for Bayern Munich in pre-season, where he collapsed during matches against Heidenheim and RB Leipzig.
The midfielder was not reported to have been unable to walk after either incident: following the latest collapse, he was seen leaving the scene on his own after receiving attention from Bayern’s medical team.
