Ghanaian forward Kwabena Owusu has expressed disappointment over his continued exclusion from the Black Stars despite what he believes is superior form compared to current national team strikers.
The 26-year-old, who has featured in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League this season, revealed on Pure FM that he feels unfairly overlooked.
“It’s hard to understand. I was getting call-ups when I was playing in the lower divisions, but now that I’m at the top level, playing in Europe’s biggest competitions, I’ve been ignored,” Owusu said. “None of the Black Stars strikers has more goals than me. This season, I scored 9 goals in 14 games.”
Owusu suggested that off-the-field issues might be influencing his exclusion from the squad.
“I feel like some people have taken things personally. I deserve a chance based on performance alone.”
He also addressed rumors that he has an attitude problem, firmly denying any claims of disrespect.
“They say I’m disrespectful. I want them to show me where I disrespected anyone. I have always given my best and shown respect.”
Despite the frustration, Owusu remains hopeful that merit will eventually prevail in national team selections.
