Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has urged stakeholders to devise a comprehensive strategy to address the challenges plaguing the state of football in the country.
Speaking during a session of Parliament on Tuesday, Bagbin emphasized the need for collective action in the aftermath of Ghana’s premature elimination from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire.
Addressing fellow parliamentarians, Bagbin stated, “It is high time we huddle together to discuss the current state of Ghana’s football and consider a comprehensive strategy for the future.
“Parliament will appreciate an opportunity to work with other stakeholders towards this common goal.”
Ghana missed out on a place in the Round of 16 after finishing third in a group consisting of Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique.
The Black Stars lost 2-1 to Cape Verde before back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique confirmed Ghana’s elimination from the tournament.
The Black Stars, for the second successive tournament, exited at the group stages without registering a win, extending the country’s wait for its fifth AFCON title to 42 years.
