Young Apostles head coach William Afoakwa has triggered outrage after claiming that referees and team owners, not coaches, determine results in the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking to Kumasi-based Sikka FM, Afoakwa said, “We, the coaches in the Ghana Premier League, are just following the team, for it is the team owners and referees that are playing the matches.”
His comments follow the end of the league season, where Young Apostles narrowly escaped relegation, finishing 14th, while Bibiani Gold Stars were crowned champions.
Afoakwa is the third coach to lead the Wench-based club this season. His remarks have reignited calls for transparency and reform amid longstanding concerns about officiating and corruption in Ghanaian football.
