Ghana forward Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has described his dramatic late winner as “amazing” after scoring a sensational injury-time volley to seal victory for Leicester City against West Bromwich Albion in the English Championship.
The 21-year-old connected superbly with a pinpoint cross from Stephy Mavididi deep into stoppage time, firing home to hand the Foxes a much-needed return to winning ways at the King Power Stadium.
Compatriot Jordan Ayew had earlier given Leicester the lead in the first half, but West Brom drew level before the break through Karlan Grant, setting up a tense finish.
Reflecting on the decisive moment, Fatawu highlighted the importance of grinding out results in key moments of the season.
“Sometimes it’s one of those days where you just need to manage the game and get the three points because that’s what we needed,” he said.
“It’s amazing to get a last-minute goal like that, and it feels really good to take the three points. We keep going.
The Ghana international continues to play a pivotal role in Leicester’s push for an immediate return to the Premier League. He has now scored five goals and provided seven assists in the Championship this season.
Leicester boss Martí Cifuentes was full of praise for the winger’s impact and determination.
“It always feels good when it’s a late goal that gives you three points, especially when it’s a fantastic goal,” Cifuentes said.
“Credit to the players for believing until the end and working hard until the last minute.”
He added:
“I’m very happy for Abdul because just before that action he was cramping a little bit, but he wanted to keep pushing. It shows that when you believe and there is togetherness in the team, you get your rewards.”
