Former Black Stars defender Sam Johnson has expressed doubt over Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), calling it “a miracle” if they succeed.
Ghana has struggled in the qualifiers, securing only two points out of a possible 12, with losses to Angola and Sudan and draws against Niger and Sudan.
The results leave Ghana in a tight spot, relying on a combination of wins and other outcomes to advance to the tournament in Morocco.
“If we qualify for AFCON, it will be a miracle that has never happened before, Sam said in an interview with Graphics Sports.
“It’s sad we’re now praying for Sudan to lose their remaining games so we can qualify. God doesn’t work like that because the Sudanese also worship the same God.
Ghana’s path to qualification will now require defeating both Angola and Niger in their upcoming games, alongside unfavorable results for Sudan.
The Black Stars will regroup in November to complete the qualifiers.
