Bristol City forward, Antoine Semenyo says he was surprised when he received his maiden Black Stars call-up ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup final play-offs.

The 22-year-old was named in the Black Stars squad to face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in March but unfortunately missed out due to injury.

Semenyo has been on a rich vein of form for Bristol City, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists in 30 matches in the English Championship.

“Otto called me and told me. When he called me, it was a bit surreal. I didn’t actually believe it, so I didn’t say anything on the phone when we called and gave me the news. I was so speechless,” he said in an interview with Happy FM.

Semenyo won the EFL Championship Player of the Month award for January 2022 after scoring three goals and getting three assists.

Heis expected to be named in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in June against Madagascar.
