Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has expressed his disappointment with the Black Satellites’ failure to qualify for the U20 World Cup.
Ghana lost 5-4 in the quarter-finals of the U20 AFCON to Egypt on penalty shootout, a result that ended the Black Satellites’ hopes of making a first appearance on the world stage since 2015.
A last four finish for Ghana would have secured an automatic qualification spot at the U20 World Cup.
Despite leading key metrics in the competition, including dribbles and key passes, the team fell short when it mattered most.
“Our main goal was to earn a World Cup spot for the U20, and it why the FA would provide all required support to the team.
“It is really disappointing given the amount of investment we made in the team, but we did not qualify.
“The team still has a young squad, and we will follow their progression to determine who can make it to the various national teams,” he told Akoma FM.
Despite the qualification setback, Ghana’s 2009 U20 team remains the only African side to win the World Cup.
