Isaac Oppong nets late to hand Asante Kotoko first-leg advantage

Asante Kotoko have attained a first-leg advantage after narrowly beating Kadiogo in the CAF Champions League prelims, courtesy a late goal by Isaac Oppong.

The forward netted in injury time to hand the Porcupines a winning start to the continental competition at the General Kerekou Stadium in Cotonou, Benin.

The Burkinabe side started strongly on the front foot and threatened the goalpost of Asante Kotoko.

The Ghana Premier League champions subsequently found their rhythm and begun dictating the tempo of the match with Mfegue having a chance to put his side ahead but missed in the 18th minute.

The Cameroonian was handed another opportunity in the second half and this time, his effort was on parried away by the opposition goalkeeper.

Asante Kotoko threw everything at Kadiogo and eventually had the breakthrough through Isaac Oppong in the 92nd minute.

Coach Seydou Zerbo’s side are expected to return to Ghana on Tuesday and continue preparations for the second-leg on September 18, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
